Gentle Glory

Why do those who know the Savior have lives filled with joy, wonder and hope despite their personal circumstances? They dared to believe the Son of God.

I wrote this song as a reflection of the Savior's gracious nature in the face of persecution by some, while others stood in awe. This is a Christmas to Easter song—a song that tells the story of His birth, His life, and His resurrection—the most important events in history. Yet, unknown, ignored, and mocked by much of the world.

So many in our society find it difficult to understand the draw of the Savior. Many perceive it as ridiculous; something needed by those not strong enough to handle the realities of life, or the uneducated and small of mind. Yet, the more the Savior is rejected, the more people are unable to find peace in their lives. Too often we live in an unsatisfying world of contention, competition, and pride. Still, many live in a mindset that their opinions and knowledge are unassailable, but only find hollow meaning and misdirection on this path.

It is this very certainty that crumbles beneath anxiety about the future and depression and censure of the past. Too many are left feeling the world is a harsh, unforgiving place they either need to control or escape. They cannot see the gentle wonder offered by the Savior and find it difficult to accept that the plagues of society and in their personal lives would melt under the Savior's influence if they would allow it. For others, His wondrous nature brings them to their knees. He teaches them to be more than a victim in the face of suffering and derision. He teaches them to see beyond humanness to the glorious nature He offers all of us as we turn our lives over to Him.

Followers of Christ, whether in this century or 2,000 years ago, allow their egos to be set aside in pursuit of the wonder of Christ and what He will accomplish in their hearts. They dared to believe in the Son of God.

Faith is acquired by degrees. It takes patience to know Christ is the path that will take you outside of yourself to kneel in wondrous awe at all He will make right in your life. It takes effort to know He is the path that will heal the pain, lack of meaning, and unfairness that you can't seem to shake. Remember the cry of a desperate father: "Lord, I believe. Help thou mine unbelief." Mark 9:25

This is everyone's struggle. It is the plan to learn to let Him take over and adopt His nature into your life. It is a process that He will guide you through if you will let Him.

Herod and Pilate dismissed Christ in pursuit of self-interest. Yet, the ordinary man thronged to touch Him. Will you focus on Him from Christmas to Easter and the whole year and let Him fill your life with gentle glory and awe??

This song is my testimony of my Savior and my Redeemer—Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
