Exuberant Praise for Jesus

“For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:30).

I started writing the "Sweet Sweet Gift of Jesus" as an attempt to craft a pop song that would appeal to the youth, but as it began to take shape, it evolved into something more—something deeper, joyful, and profound. I realized this was an anthem for the transformation the Savior has made in my life.  It is a jubilant expression of gratitude for personal growth.

Do you ever feel your spiritual music can be too reserved? While singing, are you able to fully express the joy you feel towards the Savior for saving you from sin and death, but also from sorrow, unfairness, and just plain misery that sometimes accompany this mortal life? Not because He changes our circumstances, but because He changes us--if we let Him.

I often think about the people of Limhi in the Book of Mormon. "Therefore, lift up your heads, and rejoice, and put your trust in God" (Mosiah 7:19) "And it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethern were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord" (Mosiah 24:15).

So often we pray to have the Savior change our circumstances, but how often do we pray to have Him change us so we can thrive in the circumstances we have been given? That is what this song is all about.
