Choosing Faith Through the Power of Music

Music has a way of touching the soul that words alone often cannot. I’ve found that when life feels uncertain or heavy, turning to music can be a gentle reminder of hope and strength. It’s not just about melodies or lyrics; it’s about the deep connection that music creates between our hearts and something greater. This connection can guide us toward choosing faith over fear in moments when doubt creeps in.

Embracing Faith Through Inspiring Music
Yesterday, I led a class at my church that centered on understanding the influence of music in our faith. When we aren't familiar with this power, we may sometimes underestimate it.
We get nearer to the Lord through music than perhaps through any other thing except prayer.” – J Rueben Clark
If you're aiming to strengthen your faith and share it with others, consider these practical steps:
Choose songs that resonate with your beliefs. Look for lyrics that speak to your heart and encourage hope.
Create a playlist for moments of reflection. Having a go-to list of inspiring songs can be a comforting ritual.
Join a choir or music group. Sharing music with others can amplify the feeling of community and shared faith.
Learn to play an instrument. Engaging with music actively can deepen your connection to the message.
Music is a bridge. It connects us to our faith in a way that feels natural and heartfelt.

Choose Faith over Fear?
I possess an abundance of anxiety and have experienced it since childhood. Most people and situations used to terrify me. In conversations, I could rarely say more than "Hello, my name is Heidi." People often perceived me as aloof and disinterested, but in reality, I was simply terrified and found solace in avoiding interactions. I felt much more at ease performing, as performances could be rehearsed. Conversations were more challenging, so I tended to steer clear of them.
In my youth, I discovered that the Lord empowers those who turn to Him in times of fear and weakness.
"And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men wakness that they may be humble; ... for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them." Ether 12:27
Faith isn't simply handed to you; it's a skill honed through practice. Just like mastering an instrument, developing faith requires effort. The more you practice, the more adept you become at navigating the challenging moments.
